IFAT Germany 2016 Update – An Australian Perspective

Andrew Miley and John Koumoukelis, two of Hydroflux’s founders, yesterday started the foot weary search through IFAT for the latest wastewater technologies and solutions that Australian businesses and municipalities will need in the coming years to ensure that they are using the most efficient and environmentally wastewater treatment processes available.

Andrew Miley reports in from day one:

“With Europe’s population some 40 times greater than Australia’s, it is not surprising that the bi-annual IFAT exhibition in Munich surpasses all of the water related trade shows held around Australia. It is quite overwhelming really. IFAT comprises a total of 13 halls with each one home to at least 80 specialised water and wastewater treatment companies for the entire week making the show directory feel more like a phone book. Even if I wanted to, I could not possibly get around to talking to a fraction of the exhibitors and then of course there is the ongoing issue of bumping into many work colleagues and friends.

The stands are enormous and as is the case at every IFAT, Huber’s stand was the biggest and I assume I can also add …the best. With gleaming full size production equipment spending their last few days of freedom at the show being poked, prodded and photographed before heading off to do some real work at a sewage treatment somewhere in the world.

There are inlet works and sludge treatment equipment galore, enough diffusers and aeration systems to increase the DO of the Pacific Ocean and a number of novel new wastewater treatment technologies that we are keeping a keen eye on.”
